WEEK-END 14-15 Day Hiking & Optional Overnight
Saturday 14 Hiking QARTABA (Jbayl), 55km from Beirut, 25km from Oqaybeh.
Bus departure from Hikmeh at 9am. No breakfast stop
Meeting for cars: Byblos bank, Oqaybeh, 9:45am.
“Qartaba” is a mountain town overlooking Adonis river and surrounded by forests.
. Visit a Roman site at Machnaqa, on the way to Qartaba.
. Hike Level 5 (10km, 1200-1800m). The cliff passage of Darjeh and the Kafr valley
. Visit Mar Gerges al-Azraq at Yanouh and the nearby winery.
. Return to Beirut, or
 Transfer to Aqoura for dinner & night in convent. Individuals rooms with toilet.

 

Sunday 15 Hiking AFQA (Jbayl), 55km from Beirut, via Kesrouan
Bus departure from Hikmeh at 8am.
Meeting for cars: Afqa grotto, 9:30am.
“Afqa” is the renowned love nest of Adonis & Atarte and waterhead of Nahr Brahim.
French archaeologist Renan mentions it as “one of the most beautiful spots”.
The tour starts with a short stop at this impressive site.
Level 5 (10km, 1200-1800m). Loop among junipers, water springs and high cliffs.

WEEK-END 21-22 Rafting & Hiking
Day1. Saturday 21 Rafting ORONTES RIVER (Hermel), 140km from Beirut.
Bus departure from Hikmeh at 8am. Breakfast stop in Chtaura.
In Hermel,
. Option1: Rafting 2h on the Orontes.
. Option2: Visit Deir ar-Raheb, the Qamou’ stele, the water cascades.
. Late restaurant lunch for all.
. Group1: Return to Beirut.
 Group2:
 – Transfer, 20km, to al-Jord camp, altitude 2100m.
 – Dinner and a comfortable night under large tents. You may bring your own, if you wish.
Day2. Sunday 22 Hiking CEDARS OF ZOUARIB (Denniyeh), 120km from Beirut.
Bus departure from Hikmeh at 7am. Breakfast stop in Tripoli.
Zouarib, i.e. labyrinth, is an extensive forest, mostly of cedar trees. The locals call them “baroo”.
Two itineraries are proposed, levels 4 & 6. The latter starts first, in Kfarbnine.
The others continue, 5km further on, to merge with the overnighters at Brissa dam.
Level 4 (08km, 1600-2000m). A loop hike in forest, starting at Brissa, with great passages.
Level 6 (12km, 1300-2000m). Kfarbnine to Brissa via Ras al-Aïn abundant spring.

TYPE OF TRIPS

SUNDAY HIKING TRIPS
Nature trails. Varied hiking levels
Levels: 1-3 for easy, 4-6 for moderate, 7-9 for hard
Gathering as of 7:30, Departure at 8:00am. Participants may be picked-up on the way.
TREKKING
 Continuous hiking over 2 days or more
Overnights at monasteries, guesthouses, home stays or camping under tents
Normally, all is provided, bed sheets, covers … Towels also, except for camping and other rare occasions
SNOWSHOEING
Hiking on snow. Ordinary hiking boots required.
Equipment: Snowshoes (fixed under the boots) and poles. Snowshoes & poles can be rented.
Moderate level in general. Same pricing as hiking.
RURAL TOURISM
Contribution to sustainable development of Rural Lebanon
Trips of 1 day or 2. Guided visits with no or little walking.
